ΚΥΒΕΡΝΗΤΙΚΗ ΔΩΡΕΑ $30.000 ΔΟΛΛΑΡΙΩΝ ΣΤΗΝ ΕΝΟΡΙΑ-ΚΟΙΝΟΤΗΤΑ ΑΓΙΩΝ ΑΠΟΣΤΟΛΩΝ NEWCASTLE.

ΚΥΒΕΡΝΗΤΙΚΗ ΔΩΡΕΑ $30.000 ΔΟΛΛΑΡΙΩΝ 

ΣΤΗΝ ΕΝΟΡΙΑ-ΚΟΙΝΟΤΗΤΑ ΑΓΙΩΝ ΑΠΟΣΤΟΛΩΝ NEWCASTLE.

 Tον Ελληνορθόδοξο Ιερό Ναό της πόλεως του Νιούκαστλ, επισκέφθηκε την Κυριακή των Βαίων, ο Πολιτειακός Βουλευτής κ. Timothy Francis (Tim) Owen, όπου με πολύ σεβασμό και με έκπληξη για το πλήθος των πιστών, παρηκολούθησε την Θεία Λειτουργία. Τον κ. Owen καλωσόρισε ο Ιερατικός Προϊστάμεος του Ναού, π. Νικόλαος Σκορδίλης, όπου μεταξύ άλλων είπε και τα εξής: 

"Today, it gives me great pleasure indeed, to welcome the Hon. Timothy Francis (Tim) Owen, Member for Newcastle, in our Church and in our Community. At the same time a warm welcome is extended as well, to a dear and true friend of our Community, Mrs Colleen Hodges, who is also here with us this morning.

In welcoming the Member for Newcastle, I take the opportunity to emphasize one more time, that the presence of the Greek orthodox people in this Country begins, with the arrival in the year 1829 of seven young Greek sailors who made Australia their new home.


Today, one hundred and eighty four years later, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, has over one hundred and twenty organized Communities, with Churches, Schools & Community Centres, St. Andrew's Theological College, the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and recognised as equivalent to University courses here and overseas, Welfare Centres and Homes for the Aged and Care for young adults with physical and intellectual disabilities in every State of the Country and many more benevolent Institutions. Today the faithful Greek Orthodox Australians of Greek descent, are numbering more than one million people, a figure accepted by both Australian and Greek Authorities.

In the City of Newcastle, and in the beautiful suburb of the cosmopolitan Hamilton, the Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Parish and Community, continues, under the Jurisdiction of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, for nearly sixty years now, to fulfil its obligations in Religious, Educational, Cultural and Welfare activities.The Church, a unique building of Byzantine architectural style, is the centre of the Community's life, and next to the Church, is the new Community and Cultural Centre of neoclassic architecture, an impressive building or according to the local Media, "Newcastle's White House". The Clergy and the Management Committee with its President Mr Paul Milonas, together with the Ladies Committee and all other groups in the Church, are working with enthusiasm and devotion, to maintain the teachings of our Christian Orthodox Faith and Traditions, and to pass on this treasure to the new generation. At the same time our work is endless in our efforts to promote and extend in the highest possible level, the good will and understanding which exists today within the Hunter Valley area, between the other Sister Churches and many people's groups and Communities. The hard work and dedication of all the past Clergy and Management Committees and the numerous volunteers throughout the years, has made the Newcastle Greek orthodox Parish and Community, one of the strongest and more successful Greek Orthodox Communities in Australia today.

This Community and all its Members, are welcoming you here today Mr Owen, and at the same time expressing all our gratitude, to the State Government and to you personally for the support and financial assistance offered to our Church and Community. Mr Owen, I welcome you with great joy.

Στη συνέχεια ο κ. Owen μετέβη εις την Αίθουσα Τελετών του Ιερού Ναού, το γνωστό Ελληνικό Κοινοτικό Μέγαρο και παρεκάθησε με όλο το Εκκλησίασμα στο Παραδοσιακό Γεύμα της Κυριακής των Βαϊων. Μετά σύντομο προσλαλιά του Προέδρου της Ενορίας - Κοινότητος κ./ Αποστόλου Μυλωνά, ο κ. Owen, ανεκοίνωσε την Δωρεά της Πολιτειακής Κυβερνήσεως της Νέας Νοτίου Ουαλίας, του ποσού των $29.450 δολλαρίων, η οποία εδόθη στην Ενορία-Κοινότητα μετά από την αίτηση που υπέβαλε στο Κρατικό Πρόγραμμα Κοινοτικής Στήριξης - Community Building Partnership. O κ. Owen δήλωσε ότι η Δωρεά προσεφέρθη στην Ενορία Κοινότητα των Αγίων Αποστόλων, σαν αναγνώριση της πολύτιμης και πολύπλευρης προσφοράς της, στην Ελληνική Παροικία του Νιούκαστλ αλλά και γενικότερα στην τοπική Κοινωνία. Τόνισε δέ ότι η Αίτηση ήταν πολύ καλά προετοικμασμένη και εντυπωσίασε την Επιτροποή που έξέτασε τις άιτήσεις όλων των Οργανισμών που ζήτησαν την Κρατική Οικονομική ενίσχυση.
